| The Sam Swope Auto Group is owned by the Swope family of Louisville, Kentucky and is composed of 18 dealerships in Louisville, and 7 affiliated dealerships in Elizabethtown, Radcliff, Richmond, and Lexington. The Swope Auto Group opened its doors in 1952 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Since those humble beginnings, Sam Swope and his family have grown the business to become the largest dealer in the state delivering over 23,700 vehicles in 2011. Sam Swope retired December 31, 2011, but continues as Founder and a member of the Board of Directors. Over the years, Sam Swope contributed back to his community in numerous ways including service on the Boards of Louisville Water Company, University of Louisville, University of Louisville Hospital, Lincoln Heritage Council of Boy Scouts of America, Kosair Charities, Kosair Children’s Hospital, Norton Hospital, and more. He was honored with the 1971 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award, the 1999 Silver Beaver Award from the Lincoln Heritage Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame Laureate in 2000, and the 2003 Ohio State University Alumni Citizenship Award. While still very active in civic affairs, Sam can usually be found putting one of the latest models to the test, or riding the back roads on a motorcycle. 
Today, the Sam Swope Auto Group is managed by Patricia “Patti” Swope, Chairman of the Board, Richard S. “Dick” Swope, President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Sanderson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and John D. Hill, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. As the most public face of the Sam Swope Auto Group, Patti Swope guides the company’s strategic plan, manages company real estate and facilities, and serves as spokesperson in television and print advertising. Patti currently serves on the board of Kentucky Humane Society and volunteers for other causes in the community. Dick Swope is involved in numerous civic activities including service on the boards of the University of Louisville, Norton Hospital, American Red Cross, and the Lincoln Heritage Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The Swope Auto Group is celebrating 60 years in business. In addition to the dealerships in Louisville, Kentucky, affiliated dealerships include Richmond Honda in Richmond, Kentucky; Courtesy Acura in Lexington, Kentucky; Swope Hyundai Mitsubishi in Radcliff, Kentucky; Swope Motors in Elizabethtown, Kentucky (representing Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Nissan, Toyota); and Bob Swope Ford in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The company has grown to represent 21 automobile makes, in 24 dealerships employing approximately 1100 people. Swope Auto Group is the largest automobile dealer in Kentucky and is currently ranked 63rd in the top 125 dealer groups in the nation by Automotive News magazine (March 21, 2011) based on new vehicle retail sales in 2010. Swope has received the industry’s highest awards of recognition: The Toyota President’s Award; Cadillac Master Dealer; Infiniti Award of Excellence; Elite of Lexus.
